Old ways

I am lucky enough to have a flint hand axe that is many thousands of years old. It is a long way from being a museum-grade specimen and holds litte value. Today I sat in the sunshine and used it to cut and shape a dead raspberry cane.

The axe normally sits on my desk, and I have long wondered if the damaged edge was sharp enough to still be functional. For all that has happened in the thousands of years since it was made, it still works as a tool. I would have been better off with secateurs of course, but that misses the point. Why wonder when you can find out?

I know nothing of the person who made it, and there are no records of them or any descendants left to find, but long after you would call them forgotten, their handiwork still served a purpose. I like that.
